Hey,

I'm playing Guild Wars with an Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics Card. Unfortunately, my stupid laptop doesn't allow me to replace my graphics card ( I don't think any lap top allow you to). Anyways, Im having problems playing the game. When I move around, I get this weird lag effect- the game will freeze and then start up again. This happens when im walking or moving my characters view 360 degrees. I was told by a technician that the only thing I can do is remove shaders from the game. Can someone please tell me what shaders are and how removing them might help? Also, I read on some of the forums that upgrading my memory might help the problem. I have the minimum 256 MB. Another question that I have is that is the lag effect memory related, video card related, or both? AND will upgrading my memory help to solve the problem at least partly? Thanks.

yes ... upgrading your memory will help ... but mind me asking what MB intel card it is? please don't say 32MB

Upgrading your RAM should help, but, even though the game can be played on an Extreme Card, it certainly won't run well. When you first boot up the game there's an Options button, when you click that you'll want to put all the graphical options on the bare minimum for the game to be anywhere close to performing.

As for the lag effect, its most likely a combination of a slow graphics card and a low amount of RAM. If you can upgrade your RAM module (most laptops have two memory modules) this should alleviate some of the "lag" but the graphics card is integrated and cannot be upgraded.

ALSO: Most integrated cards not produced by one of the big two (nvidia or ATI) allow you to scale the amount of system memory used. You'll find this in your display adapter's advance settings. Maxing this out (most likely 32 or 64MB) should help out a little bit, but without a dedicated, higher-end video card, that's the best you can do.

Some notebooks do allow you to change your video card. Alienware makes those but then again they charge an arm and leg for their hardware. Unless you have a very good(and probably expensive) notebook, the desktop is just so much more economical for gaming.

Upgrading your RAM may help to fix the problem but don't hold your breath.
